The Walk

I went for a walk today around the Rose Island boardwalk with my friend's dog. It was an amazing day; a light dusting of fresh snow on the ground and beautiful sunshine. It's still snowing tonight, but there isn't much where I am because I'm so close to the ocean. I'm getting more pictures taken and I'm figuring out how this thing works better to get them online. I'll try to keep this up!

The Return

I'm back to it now after a fabulous and expensive break in Vancouver. I never knew that I missed the mall quite so much. I loaded up on stuff I couldn't get here, like Gap jeans and a new digital camera I got by braving the Boxing Day sale at Best Buy. I've even taken pictures so I can post them on here!
The first two weeks back have been a rollercoaster of settling in and getting my feet back. The students have settled down too which has been much easier for me. The week before Christmas is always high-energy for students but I wasn't altogether prepared for it. I'm enjoying how the classroom is running right now and the students are responding well too. I set up a rewards program for them where they get to buy things from me with the "money" they make during class by working quietly and getting assignments in on time. It's been great so far but I have to make another run to the dollar store I think.
I also just heard that Shames Mountain, the ski hill by Terrace, opened on Friday and we've already got a trip out there planned for the end of the month. I'm so looking forward to getting up snowboarding again. It's been so long and that snowboard has been all over this province with the intent of being used. I' m hoping to get up a few times this year and try a new hill.
It's time for me to return to the demands of the classroom and get some marking done, even though yesterday was a staff day that I could have used for that. I ended up taking 3 hours to clean up and organize our equipment room in the gym so we could actually find the resouces we had. I was covered in dust after, but it looked fabulous if I must say so myself. Anyone who dares mess that up better watch out!
