The Break

Ahhhhh, two weeks off. I'm so looking forward to this. Currently, I'm at a hostel in Prince Rupert (Black Rooster Roadhouse, great place!) killing time and spending the night. My flight isn't until tomorrow, but I didn't want to take the chance of the weather changing and me getting stuck in Lax Kw'alaams tomorrow. Free internet and a room without earwigs is worth the minimal price!
This past little bit has be tiring and trying. The students have been stir crazy and ready for the break. I've been trying to wrap up units and projects so that I can start things fresh in the new year. They still put me through little tests a couple times a day, but I'm starting to get the hang of their pushing. We had a discussion yesterday about swearing and insults, but I think that is going to be a continuous uphill battle. For some reason they've latched onto the name "fathead" lately.
My plans for the break are all over the place. I'm staying with David for most of it but going to Gramma's for a few days too. My plans are fairly wide open but I have a huge list of things I would like to do. There are a couple of certainties though. For one, I will be attending the Vancouver Canucks hosting the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday, December 21st. For all of you that are not going, HA! I'm really excited about that one. I will also be eating sushi. A few times. I will sleep in, watch TV and probably drink some wine. A few times.
If anyone wants to get ahold of me or join me in my exploits while I'm in Vancouver, call my cell or send me an email!

The Snow

So I got my snow to go with the cold on Saturday. It was beautiful. I went for a nice long walk around town to get outside and to get to know where things were. I walked around the boardwalk on Rose Island which was breathtaking. They have done an amazing job creating the park-like atmosphere at Rose Island and the silence of the day just helped it along. Once I get pictures developed (since I still don't have a digital camera to make my life easier) I'll get them on here so you can see them. The boardwalk has an unfinished-wood railing that fits perfectly with the surroundings. There are benchs and picnic tables along the walkway as well so you can relax and enjoy the view of the ocean and islands nearby. It sort of has a Stanley Park feel to it, but with the slight difference of having no one else around you.
After that, I wondered up the hill to the other end of town in my quest to find out where the post office was. It's in the basement of someone's house with a very small red, blue and white sign and hours that don't really work for teachers at all. For the most part our mail is collected and delivered to the school which is nice but it is nice to know, just in case I ever need stamps.
The weather soon warmed up and turned the falling snow to rain, the fallen snow to ice, and the roads into skating rinks. It was entertaining to watch the drivers, but slightly scary to be a pedestrian around those drivers. I made it home without a scratch, except for some sore leg muscles and a rather wet touque.
